Billings man Keith Alan Rose, 48, is headed to federal prison for a decade after admitting his role in a methamphetamine distribution ring that flooded the streets of eastern Montana. On May 16, Rose was sentenced to 10 years behind bars after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess meth for distribution and possession with intent to distribute, U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme confirmed.
Rose, also known by the street alias “Rabbit,” became the target of a narcotics investigation in November 2016 after the Billings Police Department received an anonymous email detailing his trafficking activities. That tip sparked a law enforcement probe that quickly uncovered evidence linking Rose to bulk meth operations, leading to a search warrant and a damning raid on his residence.
Inside Rose’s home, officers uncovered a full drug-dealing arsenal: methamphetamine, plastic baggies, digital scales, concealment cans, ledgers documenting transactions, drug paraphernalia, and even ammunition. The trove of evidence left little doubt about the scope and intent of his operation, prosecutors said.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lori Suek and investigated jointly by the FBI’s Transnational Organized Crime – West Task Force and the Eastern Montana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force. Authorities emphasized that Rose’s operation was not petty dealing but part of a larger, organized distribution network feeding addiction and violence in the community.
U.S. District Judge Susan Watters handed down the 10-year sentence, underscoring the federal crackdown on high-level drug traffickers. The conviction falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the Department of Justice’s signature initiative to combat violent crime by targeting the most dangerous offenders and disrupting supply chains.
Project Safe Neighborhoods leverages coordinated federal, state, and local enforcement with community prevention programs to create lasting reductions in crime. In Rose’s case, authorities say his decade-long sentence sends a clear message: those who profit from Montana’s meth epidemic will face maximum consequences under the law.
