Keith Baham and David McKinney, Armed Carjacking, Washington District of Columbia 2019

A brutal carjacking in Northeast Washington has ended in prison sentences for two young men.

Keith Baham, 22, and David McKinney, 21, both from Washington, D.C., were found guilty by a jury in February 2020 of armed carjacking, armed robbery, first-degree theft, and unauthorized use of vehicle.

The crime took place on February 25, 2019, when Baham and McKinney, who knew the victim, commandeered his car at gunpoint in the 3100 block of Apple Road NE. The victim was forced to hand over his belongings before being left at the scene.

Baham was arrested on July 30, 2019, and McKinney was arrested on July 18, 2019. Both have been in custody since their arrests.

On [yesterday], Baham was sentenced to 15 years in prison, while McKinney received a 7 ½ year sentence. Both men will be placed on five years of supervised release after their prison terms.

U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department Robert J. Contee III commended the work of the MPD and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in bringing the case to justice.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Graves and Chief Contee acknowledged the efforts of those who worked on the case, including Supervisory Victim/Witness Services Coordinator Katina Adams-Washington and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rachel Forman and Kevin Birney.

The victim, now 18, lost his car, wallet, cellphone, and other personal items in the brazen crime.

The case is a reminder of the dangers of armed carjacking and the importance of community vigilance in preventing such crimes.
