ST. LOUIS, Missouri – In a shocking turn of events, Keith Delmas Thomas, a 30-year-old St. Louis County resident, has been sentenced to 70 months in prison for his role in a gun-selling sting operation.
According to law enforcement officials, Thomas, a Bureau of Prisons inmate, was arrested in February 2020 after attempting to purchase fully automatic firearms from undercover ATF agents. The deal went sour when Thomas’s co-defendant, his brother Leonard Thomas, met with agents and was subsequently arrested.
The investigation revealed that Thomas and his brother were attempting to purchase multiple firearms and Glock switches in exchange for cash and methamphetamine. The ATF agents seized multiple firearms and drugs from the scene.
‘The ATF has no greater mission than keeping firearms out of the hands of violent criminals,’ said Frederic Winston, Special Agent in Charge, Kansas City Field Division, ATF. ‘This case not only demonstrates the lengths to which criminals will go to acquire firearms, but more importantly, ATF’s expertise and commitment to investigating such violations of federal law.’
Leonard Thomas, Keith Delmas Thomas’s brother, pleaded guilty last week to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The brothers’ actions have sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the ongoing threat of gun crimes in St. Louis.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Allison Behrens handling the prosecution.
