Defendant Sentenced to 168 Months in Prison for Methamphetamine Trafficking
Keith Wigfall, 57 years old, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 168 months in prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation in South Bend, Indiana.
According to court documents, law enforcement executed a traffic stop of a vehicle Wigfall was driving in January 2021 and recovered $47,500 in cash as well as controlled substances. A search of his residence resulted in the seizure of over 1.5 kilograms of methamphetamine, 9.5 kilograms of marijuana, fentanyl, cocaine, morphine, 9 other types of controlled substances, 3 firearms, and $30,000 cash.
This is not the first time Wigfall has been involved in illegal activity. He was sentenced to 168 months in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release. This severe sentence is a reminder that our law enforcement agencies will not tolerate methamphetamine trafficking in our communities.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration with the assistance of the South Bend Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Molly E. Donnelly and former AUSA Frank E. Schaffer.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
As our communities continue to struggle with the effects of methamphetamine trafficking, it is essential that we hold those responsible accountable for their actions. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to ensure that those who engage in this type of activity are brought to justice.
The sentence handed down to Wigfall is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trafficking operation and serves as a warning to others who may be considering engaging in similar activity.
