Violent Crime on the Rise: U.S. Marshals Arrest Murder Suspect in New Jersey
On Thursday, February 23, a violent crime suspect was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals and ICE agents in Hackensack, New Jersey.
Kelbin Perez De Los Santos, a 36-year-old Dominican national, was arrested for his alleged involvement in a fatal shooting at a restaurant in Los Girasoles, near the capital city of Santo Domingo, on July 10, 2016.
A verbal altercation led to the shooting, where Perez De Los Santos allegedly fired a shotgun at a man, claiming his life.
The suspect fled the Dominican Republic shortly after the incident and was the subject of an INTERPOL Red Notice.
INTERPOL Washington, the U.S. National Central Bureau (USNCB), provided critical assistance during the investigation, and the U.S. Marshals International Investigations Branch determined that Perez De Los Santos was likely residing in the Hackensack area.
On Thursday, members of the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, along with ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations agents, tracked Perez De Los Santos to an apartment where he was arrested on immigration violations.
De Los Santos is currently being held in the custody of ICE and is facing deportation back to the Dominican Republic.
The U.S. Marshals Service is the primary agency responsible for locating and apprehending fugitives who are wanted by foreign countries and who have been identified and located in the United States.
