Kelvin Fernandez, Armed Robbery and Carjacking, New York 2022

Four gang members have been charged in connection with an armed robbery and carjacking spree that terrorized New Yorkers in 2022. KELVIN FERNANDEZ, DEIVID PEREZ, JUAN LOPEZ, and MOISES HERNANDEZ DE LA CRUZ were arrested on and are expected to be presented before U.S. Magistrate Judge Stewart D. Aaron in Manhattan federal court.

The defendants, who are members and associates of the Shooting Boys gang, allegedly committed a series of armed robberies and carjackings between April 25 and May 10, 2022. The crimes included gunpoint robberies of two convenience stores in Manhattan and the Bronx, a machete and BB gun convenience store robbery in the Bronx, an armed carjacking of a BMW in the Bronx, and a Jeep Cherokee carjacking in Queens.

KELVIN FERNANDEZ is accused of providing the other defendants with the firearm and BB gun used during the charged incidents. FERNANDEZ is facing charges of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, among other charges, which carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

The case is being prosecuted by the Office’s Violent and Organized Crime Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Dominic A. Gentile and Chelsea L. Scism are in charge of the prosecution.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams stated, “As alleged, the defendants went on a crime spree in Manhattan and the Bronx. Their alleged violent robberies and car thefts—committed using a firearm, machete, and BB gun—left terrified New Yorkers in their wake. Let these charges be a message to any gang members who think they can get away with perpetrating violence in our city: this Office will prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.”

NYPD Commissioner Edward A. Caban commended the NYPD detectives and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their work in eradicating gun violence in New York City and preserving the safety of all New Yorkers.
