A Taylor man, Kenneth Hartley, was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting minors and possessing child pornography. The sentencing took place in Detroit, Michigan.
According to the United States Attorney, Dawn N. Ison, the offense involved over 100 minors who were exploited by Hartley between 2010 and 2020. This included at least 29 identified victims, with 17 of them being minors under the age of 12 at the time of the exploitation. The youngest victim was just eight years old.
Hartley, 53, admitted to creating a fake online profile on the Skype internet messaging platform, tricking a male minor into providing sexually explicit images of himself. He also obtained explicit images of two other 13-year-old males through the Kik social media application in 2014 and 2015.
Agents discovered 46,153 images of child pornography during the investigation, which will be used for sentencing purposes. The case was investigated by the Southeast Michigan Trafficking and Exploitation Crimes Task Force of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Assistant United States Attorney Christopher Rawsthorne prosecuted the case. The investigation and prosecution demonstrate the commitment to making the internet a safer place for children.
The U.S. Attorney emphasized that those who seek to harm children through online exploitation will be held responsible. The FBI will continue to work aggressively to pursue predators like Hartley who victimize and exploit children.
Hartley’s sentence sends a clear warning to others who would engage in this kind of behavior. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children from online predators.
