Defendant Pleads Guilty to Ammunition Offense in Connection with Everett Shooting

BOSTON – In a federal court in Boston, Kenneth Munoz, 27, pleaded guilty yesterday to illegally possessing ammunition in connection with a January shooting in a residential neighborhood of Everett.

Munoz, a Revere man, was identified as one of the two shooters who fired over 20 shots in an Everett neighborhood on the afternoon of January 2, 2022. The shooting was captured on video surveillance from nearby residences and caused ballistic damage in the surrounding area, including bullet holes inside of bedrooms and living rooms in surrounding residences.

Munoz is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to prior convictions. He pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition, a charge that provides for a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.

U.S. Senior District Court Judge William G. Young scheduled sentencing for April 9, 2025. United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy, James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Boston Field Division, Everett Police Chief Paul Strong and Chelsea Police Chief Keith E. Houghton made the announcement.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Hoefle of the Organized Crime & Gang Unit is prosecuting the case.

The Everett shooting was a brazen display of gun violence that has plagued many neighborhoods in Massachusetts. The guilty plea by Munoz is a significant step towards holding those responsible for such crimes accountable.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
