A disturbing case of video voyeurism has shaken the McAlester community in Oklahoma. Kenneth Wayde Elkins, a 55-year-old man from McAlester, has pleaded guilty to three counts of violating Title 18, United States Code, Section 1801.
The charges against Elkins stem from an investigation by the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Between July 1, 2013, and August 14, 2013, Elkins allegedly captured images of the private areas of females without their consent while they were in an area in which they had a reasonable expectation of privacy – a restroom.
The Honorable Steven P. Shreder, Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted Elkins’ guilty plea and ordered the completion of a presentence report. Sentencing will be scheduled upon its completion. Elkins remains on bond pending sentencing.
Assistant United States Attorney Dean Burris represented the United States in this case.
Elkins’ guilty plea is a significant development in this disturbing case. The defendant’s actions have caused harm to the victims, and his punishment will serve as a warning to others who engage in similar behavior.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has worked tirelessly to bring Elkins to justice. Their efforts will ensure that those who commit crimes like video voyeurism are held accountable.
