PHOENIX, Ariz. – A Gila River man has been sentenced to 9 years in prison for a brutal attack on a fellow community member.
On January 29, 2014, Kenneth Wayne Morgan, Jr., 38, of Blackwater, Ariz., entered a home on the Gila River Indian Community and stabbed a man in the head, causing a 10 cm. gash from the victim’s temple through his ear.
The victim was air-evacuated to a local hospital where he was treated for the life-threatening injury. Both Morgan and the victim are members of the Gila River Indian Community.
Morgan was found guilty by a jury on April 30, 2015, of assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a federal crime.
On May 22, 2015, Morgan was sentenced by U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow to 108 months in prison.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Gila River Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Raynette Logan and Brooke Mickelson, Assistant U.S. Attorneys, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
