Kenshaun Thompson Convicted for Mail Theft, Springfield VA, 2023

A federal jury has convicted a Springfield man for his involvement in a mail theft ring in October 2023. Kenshaun Thompson, 26, was found guilty on three charges of possessing and receiving stolen mail.

According to court records, Thompson’s co-conspirator, Adam Bekele, 33, of Annandale, accessed several mailboxes, including the mailbox at the West Springfield Post Office on Rolling Road, and took the mail from the box into a vehicle. Bekele then transported the stolen mail to an apartment in Falls Church, where he transferred it to Thompson.

On multiple occasions, including October 24, 25, and 26, 2023, Bekele delivered the stolen mail to Thompson, who knew that the mail had been stolen. Bekele has already pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail theft and faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison when he is sentenced on October 3.

Thompson faces a maximum of 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on December 5 for each count of receiving stolen mail. However, actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district court judge will determine Thompson’s sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

U.S. Attorney Jessica D. Aber and Inspector in Charge of the Washington Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Damon E. Wood, announced the conviction after U.S. District Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles accepted the verdict.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Alessandra Serano and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Antara Saikat Joardar are prosecuting the case, while Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Hiller provided valuable assistance.
