INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA – Kenyasia Edmond, 20, was sentenced to 85 months in federal prison for armed robbery and carjacking of a Lyft driver. The crime occurred on October 22, 2020, in the Glendale area of Indianapolis.

According to court documents, Edmond and her accomplice, Taa’mya Alisa Womack, hailed a Lyft to pick them up from the Glendale area. When the Lyft arrived, Edmond and Womack entered the back seat and placed guns against the victim’s head, ordering her to stop the vehicle. The victim was pushed to the ground, and Edmond and Womack fled the area in the victim’s vehicle.

The victim ran to a nearby gas station and called the police. Investigators spotted a vehicle matching the description of the victim’s car and conducted a traffic stop. Edmond, Womack, and a juvenile were taken into custody. A 9mm semiautomatic pistol was found during the search of the area.

Edmond was taken to IMPD headquarters and waived her rights, agreeing to be interviewed. She admitted to hailing the Lyft for the purpose of robbing the driver and stated that Womack wielded the weapon during the commission of the crime.

The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Chief Judge Tanya Walton Pratt, who also ordered that Edmond be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for three years following her release from federal prison.

U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Myers thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Lawrence D. Hilton for prosecuting the case.
