Laguna Man Indicted for Assaulting Intimate Partner
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – A Laguna man was indicted by federal prosecutors for allegedly beating and strangling his intimate partner.
According to an indictment, Kenzie Alonzo, 25, an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Laguna, assaulted Jane Doe, his intimate partner, by beating and strangling her on August 18, 2024. As a result of the assault, Jane Doe was hospitalized with severe bruising and bite marks on her body as well as a concussion.
Alonzo will remain on conditions of release pending trial, which has not yet been scheduled. If convicted, Alonzo faces up to 10 years in prison.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs with assistance from the Zia Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Jesse Pecoraro is prosecuting the case.
An indictment is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico made the announcement today.
