USPS Employee Charged with Theft
SCRANTON – Keri Laird, a 42-year-old woman from Madisonburg, Pennsylvania, has been charged with theft in a criminal information filed by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
According to United States Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, the information alleges that between August 7, 2013, and January 21, 2015, Laird stole $5,489 from the United States Postal Service. At the time, Laird was employed at the Madisonburg Post Office.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts is prosecuting the case.
The alleged theft is a serious offense that has caused harm to the integrity of the USPS. As a result, the U.S. Attorney’s Office is taking this matter seriously and pursuing prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
Laird is presumed innocent until a verdict is reached in court. If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
