Kevin Kautman, Methamphetamine Possession, Iowa 2022

A Dubuque man has been sentenced to over five years in federal prison for possession of methamphetamine and firearms. Kevin Kautman, 37, was sentenced on July 6, 2022, to 66 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

According to court documents, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Kautman’s residence in December 2020. Inside his bedroom, police found a .45 caliber pistol, a stolen shotgun, over 15 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales, marijuana, and other narcotic-related items. Kautman was also found to have counterfeit money and a lengthy criminal history with convictions for domestic abuse, assault, harassment, and violating a no contact order.

At sentencing, the evidence showed that Kautman had threatened his roommate with a firearm. Kautman was fined $100 and must serve a five-year term of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Kautman is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Liz Dupuich and investigated by the Dubuque Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
