Two Zachary Men Sentenced for Stealing 12 Firearms
Baton Rouge, LA – Two men from Zachary, Louisiana, have been sentenced to federal prison for stealing 12 firearms from a business.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Keyshawn Newman, 24, and Ransom Parker, 27, were sentenced to 39 months and 70 months in federal prison, respectively, for their roles in the theft of firearms from Thompson Creek Sporting Goods.
The incident occurred on June 19, 2023, when the owner of the store observed four individuals wearing masks and hoodie-type sweatshirts via live-feed surveillance footage. The owner contacted the Jackson Police Department, and officers arrived shortly after the alarm notification. The suspects were seen running from the business, carrying firearms, and dropping them as they ran.
Investigating officers located 10 of the 12 stolen firearms at various locations in the area. Newman was identified as one of the suspects and ultimately admitted to being involved in the burglary. Parker was identified as the driver of the vehicle used in the burglary and admitted to participating in the crime.
The stolen firearms included a CMMG, model MK4, 4.6×30 caliber pistol; Armalite, model M-15, 5.56 caliber rifle; Arsenal, model SAM-5, 5.56 caliber rifle; and 8 other firearms.
The matter was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Jackson Police Department, and East Feliciana Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Eli J. Abad prosecuted the case.
Keyshawn Newman and Ransom Parker will serve three years of supervised release following their terms of imprisonment. The case highlights the importance of community cooperation in preventing and investigating crimes.
