ARMED AND AUDACIOUS – Kevin Freeman, 20, of Washington D.C., walked into Superior Court today with a grim fate awaiting him for his brazen attack on an elderly Metro passenger.
The judge’s gavel fell hard as Freeman was sentenced to five years in prison for robbing the 72-year-old victim at knifepoint aboard an orange line train. The sentence, which includes five years of supervised release after prison, totals 90 months behind bars for Freeman.
According to prosecutors, Freeman, wearing a face mask, targeted the elderly man on January 16, 2025, as he awaited his ride home from work. After a fierce struggle, Freeman made off with $800 in cash and an iPhone 15, valued at $800, leaving behind a terrorized victim.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the sentence, while Chief Michael Anzallo of the Metro Transit Police Department stood by, commending the swift work of Detective Adrian Rodriguez and Assistant U.S. Attorney Eliot Folsom in bringing Freeman to justice.
Freeman had previously faced a probation revocation sentence for another Metro train robbery conviction in June 2024, but Judge Jennifer Di Toro today ruled that his sentence would run consecutively to this latest offense, leaving no doubt about the severity of his crime.
Despite Freeman’s youthful appearance, his criminal activities were not overlooked by the court. Judge Di Toro refused to sentence him under the Youth Rehabilitation Act due to the similarity of his recent conviction for similar conduct.
