Dae Sung Kim, SSA Beneficiary Prostitution Lure, MA 2023

Boston – A shocking abuse of power has landed former Social Security Administration employee Dae Sung Kim, 36, of Auburn, Mass., behind bars for attempting to lure a SSA beneficiary into prostitution.

Kim was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman to six months in prison and five years of supervised release after pleading guilty to one count of attempting to induce a person to travel in interstate commerce to engage in prostitution.

“Public servants are entrusted to assist people, not exploit them,” said United States Attorney Leah B. Foley. “This case represents yet another example of our office’s commitment to reduce the demand for commercial exploitation.”

Kim, while employed as an SSA claims specialist, targeted a vulnerable woman seeking to reinstate her disability benefits. He used his access to her personally identifiable information and proposed paying her for sex, taking advantage of her difficult situation.

In March 2024, Kim called the beneficiary from his personal cell phone, offering to help her out of her “difficult situation.” During an investigation that followed, he continued his solicitation over several months through text messages with undercover law enforcement. He even requested nude photographs and proposed meeting in a hotel parking lot for sex in exchange for money.

Kim was ultimately confronted by law enforcement when he arrived at the meeting location in October 2024. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney James J. Nagelberg of the Major Crimes Unit and Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan D. O’Shea of the Worcester Branch Office.

United States Attorney Foley and Acting SSA Inspector General Michelle Anderson made the announcement, with valuable assistance provided by Homeland Security Investigations and the Fitchburg and Gardner Police Departments.
