Pittsburgh Bank Robbed: Louisiana Man Charged
A brazen daylight bank heist left customers shaken in Pittsburgh’s suburbs earlier this year. Now, the man behind the robbery is facing serious time behind bars.
Kirk Stutes, 52, a resident of Crowley, Louisiana, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of Bank Robbery, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced.
According to the indictment, Stutes robbed First National Bank located at 6298 Steubenville Pike on January 16, 2015. The bank is insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
The law provides for a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Robinson Township Police Department, North Fayette Police Department, Allegheny County Police Department, Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
