Kirstin Sue Jackson, a 39-year-old woman from South Pekin, Illinois, has been charged with making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm.
According to the indictment, Jackson acquired a firearm from Pekin Gun & Sporting Goods, Inc. in May 2021 after knowingly making a false and fictitious written statement stating she was the actual buyer of the firearm.
Jackson was arrested on September 23, 2021, and is currently in custody of the United States Marshal Service.
The indictment alleges that Jackson made the false statement in an attempt to deceive the federal firearms dealer.
The maximum statutory penalties for the alleged crime are not more than 5 years imprisonment, 3 years supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
The charge is the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Ronald L. Hanna is representing the government in the prosecution.
Members of the public are reminded that an indictment is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Jackson’s case highlights the importance of honesty during the purchase of firearms.
The investigation and subsequent charges demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to ensuring the integrity of the firearms process.
