ORLANDO, FL – Chrissie Fier Williams, a 39-year-old resident of Kissimmee, Florida, is headed to federal prison for more than three years after being convicted of orchestrating an international gun smuggling operation. U.S. District Judge Carlos Mendoza delivered the sentence this week, following Williams’ guilty plea on January 2, 2024.
Court documents paint a picture of a calculated criminal. Between January 28, 2021, and October 4, 2022, Williams, acting as a key player in a larger network, repeatedly shipped packages disguised as ordinary household goods to Trinidad and Tobago. These weren’t care packages; they were meticulously crafted containers for illegal weaponry.
The shipments weren’t just spare parts, either. Williams concealed fully-assembled pistols and dangerous AR-style rifles within the boxes, alongside high-capacity magazines – including a massive 65-round drum and a 100-round drum – and the corresponding ammunition. She further attempted to evade detection by fabricating shipping manifests and utilizing “straw shippers” – individuals who unknowingly (or complicitly) presented the packages under their names.
The investigation, spearheaded by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) with crucial support from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security, uncovered the full scope of Williams’ operation. Assistant United States Attorney Dana E. Hill successfully prosecuted the case, ensuring Williams faced the consequences of her actions.
This takedown falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative designed to unite law enforcement at all levels with the communities they serve to combat violent crime and gun violence. The Department of Justice recently reinforced PSN with a strategy focused on building community trust, supporting violence prevention programs, prioritizing strategic enforcement, and rigorously measuring results.
Williams received a sentence of three years and one month in federal prison. The case serves as a stark reminder that those who attempt to arm foreign criminals with dangerous weapons will face the full weight of federal law. The streets of Trinidad and Tobago – and the citizens of the United States – are a little safer thanks to the work of HSI, ATF, and the Department of Justice.
