Kiya Rojas, 23, Charged with Manslaughter in Harrold, South Dakota
In a shocking case, Kiya Rojas, a 23-year-old woman from Harrold, South Dakota, has been indicted for Manslaughter in a federal court.
According to the indictment, Rojas allegedly caused the death of an individual while operating a motor vehicle in a grossly negligent manner on July 9, 2018.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 8 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
Rojas was released on bond pending trial and is presumed innocent until proven guilty. A trial date has not been set.
The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Lower Brule Agency, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley prosecuting the case.
