Kody Severin, 28, of New Orleans, Sentenced to 138 Months in Prison for Gun and Marijuana Trafficking

A New Orleans man has been sentenced to 138 months in prison for possession of machine guns, marijuana, and other firearms-related charges. Kody Severin, 28, was sentenced on March 26, 2026, by U.S. District Judge Barry W. Ashe.

Severin was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana (Count 1), possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime (Count 2), felon in possession of firearms (Counts 3-6), possession of machine guns (Count 4), possession of an unregistered firearm (Count 5), felon in possession of a firearm (Count 6), attempt to obstruct justice (Count 7), and receiving explosive materials (Count 8).

The charges stem from a search warrant executed at an apartment in the 1400 block of Milan Street on December 12, 2022. Law enforcement located and seized several firearms, including a Glock Model 17L, a Glock Model 24, a Ruger model Security-6, a Glock Model 21 with a device to convert it to a fully automatic machinegun, a Masterpiece Arms Model Mac 11, and a Privately Made Firearm semi-automatic handgun. They also found approximately 100 machinegun conversion devices, suspected marijuana, multiple completed silencers, and explosive devices.

On December 13, 2022, law enforcement encountered Severin at the apartment and observed him throw a black Smith and Wesson Model 36 revolver from the balcony. He was taken into custody without further incident.

The Court sentenced Severin as follows: Count 1, 60 months imprisonment, two years supervised release, $100 special assessment fee; Count 2, 60 months imprisonment, five years supervised release, $100 special assessment fee; and Counts 3-8, 78 months imprisonment, three years supervised release, $600 special assessment fee. The Court ordered that Counts 1, 3-8 be served concurrently, but Count 2 must be served consecutive to all counts.

Kody Severin, 28, was previously convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year. This conviction made him a felon, who is prohibited from possessing firearms.
