Kristin Davis, 38, former New York City Comptroller candidate, pleads guilty to distributing hundreds of prescription pills in exchange for cash.
According to a plea deal reached in Manhattan federal court, Davis sold hundreds of pills containing amphetamine, alprazolam, zolpidem, and carisoprodol to a cooperating witness who was working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The pills were sold in exchange for cash and were recorded by the witness.
The investigation revealed that Davis was operating in an illegal market for prescription pills, which is a growing problem in the country. The pills she sold were highly addictive and dangerous, and included oxycodone, a powerful painkiller that is often used as a substitute for or adjunct to other illegal drugs.
Davis faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison for her crime. She is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Edgardo Ramos on July 25, 2014. The investigation into the distribution of prescription pills is ongoing and has led to the arrest of several other individuals, including Thomas Rock, Eugene Kurochkin, Raoul Goldberger, and Rebecca Teman.
Davis’s plea deal is a blow to her political career, which was already marred by scandal. She was a candidate for New York City Comptroller in 2013, but her campaign was plagued by allegations of prostitution and other misconduct.
The case highlights the growing problem of prescription pill trafficking in the United States. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, abuse of illegally distributed prescription pills is the fastest-growing drug problem in the country.
The investigation was led by the FBI, the New York City Police Department, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The case is a reminder that law enforcement is taking a tough stance on prescription pill trafficking and will do everything in its power to combat this public health epidemic.
