LAKE CITY, FL – Kristofferson Farmer Jr., 24, is headed to federal prison for more than six years after a raid on his Lake City residence uncovered a drug operation and a small arsenal of firearms. U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard handed down the six-year and eight-month sentence on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, following Farmer’s guilty plea on October 4, 2023, to charges of possession with intent to distribute Alpha-PVP and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.
The bust, executed on February 7, 2023, by law enforcement, revealed a cocktail of illicit substances within Farmer’s home: Alpha-PVP, fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana. But the drugs weren’t the whole story. Authorities also discovered three loaded firearms – a stolen .45 caliber Glock pistol, a 9mm Glock, and an AR-15 rifle. Farmer readily admitted ownership of both the narcotics and the weapons, boasting to investigators that his operation generated roughly $40,000 a month.
The AR-15 rifle proved to be a key piece of evidence, with Farmer’s DNA directly linking him to the weapon. This isn’t Farmer’s first brush with the law concerning firearms. He was previously convicted in 2018 for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and carrying a concealed weapon – a conviction that already barred him from legally owning any firearms or ammunition under federal law. The repeat offense clearly weighed heavily in the sentencing.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Cannizzaro led the prosecution, building a solid case against Farmer based on the evidence seized during the search warrant execution and Farmer’s own admissions. The case underscores the ATF’s ongoing commitment to disrupting illegal firearms trafficking and holding repeat offenders accountable.
Federal officials are framing Farmer’s conviction as a win for Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. Launched in 2021, the renewed PSN strategy emphasizes community trust, supporting local organizations, strategic enforcement, and measurable results. The program aims to not only punish offenders but also address the root causes of violence.
Farmer’s sentence serves as a stark reminder that trafficking narcotics while illegally armed carries significant consequences. The six-year and eight-month prison term will likely put a substantial dent in his lucrative operation, and his status as a convicted felon will further complicate his life after release. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the ongoing efforts to combat drug and gun violence in Florida.
