Lower Brule Woman Sentenced for Assaulting Federal Officer
A Lower Brule woman has been sentenced to prison for assaulting two federal law enforcement officers in 2019.
Kristy Andrews, age 28, was sentenced to 12 months in federal prison, followed by one year of supervised release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $50 for assaulting two federal law enforcement officers on November 23, 2019.
According to court documents, Andrews was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 11, 2020, and pleaded guilty to the charges on November 12, 2020.
The conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred on November 23, 2019, in Lower Brule, where Andrews assaulted two federal law enforcement officers while they were engaged in the performance of their official duties.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Lower Brule Agency, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley prosecuted the case. Andrews was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
Acting United States Attorney Dennis R. Holmes announced the sentencing, which took place on August 19, 2021, by U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno.
