Fort Pierre Man Sentenced for Resisting a Federal Officer.
In a shocking turn of events, Londelle Ashley, a 31-year-old resident of Fort Pierre, South Dakota, was sentenced to four months in custody for his involvement in a violent confrontation with federal officers on the Crow Creek Indian Reservation.
The incident occurred on August 19, 2020, when Bureau of Indian Affairs officers were called to a report of a person acting in a disorderly manner at a residence. When officers entered the home, Ashley rushed the officer and actively resisted arrest.
Ashley, who was 30 years old at the time of the incident, was subsequently indicted by a federal grand jury on September 1, 2020. He pled guilty to the charges on June 22, 2021.
On September 7, 2021, Ashley was sentenced by U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno to four months in custody and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $25.
Ashley’s conviction stems from his refusal to cooperate with federal authorities, which led to a violent confrontation with law enforcement. The incident highlights the dangers faced by officers who are tasked with maintaining order and upholding the law.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Department of the Interior. Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley prosecuted the case.
