HARRISBURG, PA – Kwane Henderson, 42, formerly of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for aggravated identity theft. Henderson’s scheme involved racking up over $28,000 in fraudulent purchases at Boscov’s department stores across the state and beyond.
U.S. District Court Judge Jennifer P. Wilson handed down the sentence on March 24, 2022, following Henderson’s admission that he used stolen credit card numbers to fund his shopping spree. The fraudulent activity occurred in February 2019, targeting Boscov’s locations in Cumberland, Dauphin, and York Counties. But the Pennsylvania purchases were just a piece of a larger, multi-state operation.
According to United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, Henderson’s fraud extended to Boscov’s stores in Delaware, New Jersey, and other parts of Pennsylvania. Investigators pieced together a pattern of illicit spending, revealing a calculated effort to exploit unsuspecting individuals’ financial information. The total damage from Henderson’s actions exceeded $28,000, impacting numerous victims.
The U.S. Secret Service took the lead on the investigation, recognizing the interstate nature of the crime and the potential for wider fraud. They partnered with the Springettsbury Township Police Department, combining resources to track Henderson’s movements and gather evidence. The collaboration proved crucial in building a solid case against the defendant.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Carlo D. Marchioli skillfully prosecuted the case, presenting the evidence to the court and securing the conviction. The two-year sentence sends a clear message that identity theft and fraudulent schemes will not be tolerated, and those who prey on others’ financial security will face serious consequences. Henderson’s past in East Stroudsburg did not shield him from federal justice.
While the sentencing provides a measure of closure for the victims, the case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat of credit card fraud. Authorities urge consumers to regularly monitor their accounts for suspicious activity and report any unauthorized charges immediately. The Secret Service continues to investigate financial crimes, working to dismantle these operations and protect the public.
