Kyle Ranch Hand, Check Forgery, California 2023

⏱ 2 min read

A Kyle ranch hand got a taste of the cold, hard justice he dished out to his former employer, snagging a year in the slammer for a brazen check theft scheme.

Lyle Dean Misun Tibbits, 33, was sentenced to one year in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to Larceny charges in January 2026.

The scheme began in June 2025, when Tibbits, while working on a ranch in Kyle, swiped several blank checks belonging to his employer.

Over the next month, he cashed checks worth nearly $10,000, using the proceeds for his own gain. The checks were written to himself and another person, according to court records.

Tibbits was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing on April 20, 2026.
