Texarkana, AR – A pair of felons, including an armed career criminal, got years in the slammer on gun charges after sentencings in federal court, the DOJ USAO announced.
Lamar Cole, 35, of Texarkana, was sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for carrying a gun in a public place, specifically at Savannah’s mall. Cole, a convicted felon, had been previously convicted of multiple crimes, including violent offenses.
Cole’s punishment stems from an August 2023 incident where he was found carrying a 9mm handgun in a bag at the mall. When questioned by law enforcement, Cole admitted to possessing the firearm, which is a federal offense for a convicted felon.
Cole’s lengthy rap sheet includes convictions for aggravated assault and theft by receiving, among other crimes. His history as an armed career criminal is well-documented, with multiple incidents of firearm-related offenses.
In a separate case, 28-year-old Daimion Brown of Little Rock was sentenced to 6 years in federal prison for firing shots in a residential neighborhood. Brown’s punishment comes after a July 2023 shooting incident in which he fired a handgun multiple times in a neighborhood, causing panic among residents.
Brown’s crimes have resulted in significant harm to the community, with multiple eyewitnesses reporting the sound of gunfire and feeling threatened by the reckless behavior.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jane Doe praised the work of law enforcement in bringing these cases to justice, saying, ‘These sentences send a clear message that carrying a gun as a convicted felon will not be tolerated in our community.’
