Lame Deer Man Jailed for Brutal Assault
BILLINGS – In a shocking display of violence, Leon Seminole, 58, of Lame Deer, Montana, has been convicted of assault and strangulation for punching and attempting to strangle a female victim.
According to court documents, on August 17, 2014, Seminole unleashed a brutal attack on the victim, punching, kicking, and attempting to strangle her. Miraculously, the victim was able to escape from Seminole’s clutches.
But the nightmare didn’t end there. Witnesses testified that the victim’s face was red and swollen, and she looked like she had been beaten up. Medical evidence presented at trial documented that the victim had suffered multiple contusions to her head and face, including a broken tooth and both eyes were swollen, with one eye swollen shut.
Photos taken by the Bureau of Indian Affairs officer present when the victim was seen at Indian Health Services showed substantial swelling and various other injuries. The sheer brutality of the attack has left many in the community stunned and outraged.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office. U.S. District Court Judge Susan Watters presided over the trial, which lasted for two days.
Seminole’s sentencing has been set for August 31, 2016. The community is breathing a sigh of relief that justice has been served, but many are still grappling with the severity of the attack and the long-term effects it will have on the victim.
This conviction serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
