SCRANTON – In a stunning blow to the drug trade in Carbon County, Jason Mika, a 44-year-old Lansford resident, has been sentenced to 188 months behind bars for his role in methamphetamine trafficking. The sentence, handed down on July 17 by United States District Judge Karoline Mehalchick, also includes four years of supervised release.
Mika’s conviction stemmed from a massive seizure during a raid at his Lansford home. Authorities uncovered over 400 grams of methamphetamine, along with other controlled substances and a revolver, all pointing to the defendant’s intentions to distribute the illegal substances.
Acting United States Attorney John Gurganus revealed that Mika had previously admitted to possessing with the intent to distribute more than 50 grams of meth. The raid was conducted by the Nesquehoning Police Department and other investigators, with the support of federal agencies such as the FBI and Pennsylvania’s Office of the Attorney General.
This case is a testament to Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at dismantling cartels, eliminating transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and safeguarding communities from violent crime. The investigation was a collaborative effort between various law enforcement agencies, including the Lehighton Borough Police Department, the Lansford Police Department, the Franklin Township Police Department, and the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office.
United States Attorney James Buchanan led the prosecution in this case, ensuring that Mika faced the full brunt of justice for his drug-related crimes. The sentence sends a clear message that the sale of illegal drugs will not be tolerated in Pennsylvania and across the nation.
