Laredo Man Indicted for Online Sex Predation of Minors

LAREDO, Texas – In a chilling case of internet-enabled sexual exploitation, 30-year-old Emanuel Valdez has been indicted for enticing a 14-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity and for possessing child pornography. According to U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei, the Laredo resident has been communicating with the minor online for over two years.

Valdez was originally charged with these offenses on July 16 and remains in custody. The federal grand jury has now returned a four-count indictment against him.

The charges detail that Valdez communicated with the girl through video gaming, escalating to sexual conversations in January. He is accused of sending explicit texts, asking for nude photos, and attempting to arrange meetings for sex. In addition to this victim, the indictment links him to two other 14-year-old girls. He discussed taking one’s virginity and suggested lying to parents to leave home for a meet-up.

A July 17 search warrant uncovered thousands of child sexual abuse materials on Valdez’s possessions. Ganjei emphasized that protecting minors from online predators is a top priority for the Southern District of Texas, vowing to pursue such cases to the ends of the internet and globe.

Special Agent in Charge Aaron Tapp of the FBI’s San Antonio Field Office highlighted the importance of holding predators accountable, with the help of the FBI San Antonio Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force. If convicted, Valdez faces life imprisonment along with a maximum fine of $250,000.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI with assistance from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg, North Carolina, Police Department. The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative launched to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Makens is prosecuting the case.
