Local Man Accused of Child Pornography
Tampa, FL – In a disturbing case, 57-year-old Ronald William Brown of Largo has pleaded guilty to eight counts of child pornography charges. The charges include three counts of possession and five counts of receipt of child pornography.
Brown was arrested at his home in July 2012 following a multi-jurisdiction investigation into child pornography. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison for each possession count, and a mandatory minimum of 5 years, up to 20 years’ imprisonment for each receipt offense.
The investigation, led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, has been ongoing since Brown’s arrest. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Amanda C. Kaiser.
This case is brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
Brown’s guilty plea is a significant step in bringing justice to the victims of child pornography. The community can rest a little easier knowing that those who exploit and harm children will be held accountable.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of Project Safe Childhood and the need for continued vigilance in the fight against child exploitation. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
