Armed Bank Robbery Lands Columbia Man 10 Years in Prison
A brazen bank robbery in Columbia, MO, turned high-speed chase with an infant in the getaway car has landed Larome Demetrius Humphrey behind bars for 10 years. The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to armed bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
On April 27, 2017, Humphrey and two accomplices stormed the Callaway Bank, located at 5600 Bull Run Dr., Columbia, MO. Armed with pistols, they jumped the teller counter and demanded cash at gunpoint. The thieves made off with $2,588.
A high-speed chase ensued, with Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers chasing the 2007 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Humphrey, at speeds over 100 m.p.h. The vehicle eventually left the roadway and struck a fence, prompting all three suspects to flee on foot. They were apprehended by law enforcement officers.
When searched, the vehicle yielded a 1-year-old child, the son of Humphrey’s girlfriend, who owned the car used in the robbery. A large sum of cash was also discovered concealed in Humphrey’s underwear.
Humphrey’s extensive and violent criminal history includes convictions for aggravated assault, possession of marijuana, felony facilitation of a sale of Alprazolam, and attempted possession of marijuana.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Lynn. It was investigated by the Columbia, MO, Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the FBI.
