A Memphis man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sex trafficking of a minor. Laron Matlock, age 33, was sentenced by U.S. Senior District Judge Jon Phipps McCalla for his role in facilitating the travel of a 16-year-old minor from Chicago to Memphis in July 2012 for the purpose of prostitution.
According to investigators, Matlock assisted a co-defendant in transporting the minor to Nashville, where she was advertised on the website www.backpage.com. Matlock paid the cost associated with the posting and drove the minor back to Memphis before attempting to transport her to a customer’s home for further prostitution.
The case was the result of investigative efforts by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Memphis Division, the Civil Rights Human Trafficking Taskforce, and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian K. Coleman and Trial Attorney Mi Yung Park represented the United States in the case.
