Lashawn Leroy Williams, Jr. Sentenced to 7 Years in Federal Prison for Gun and Cocaine Charges

A Rock Island man has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for his role in purchasing firearms and possessing cocaine, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.

Lashawn Leroy Williams, Jr., 24, was sentenced on January 28, 2026, for making false statements during the purchase of firearms, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, and carrying a firearm during and in relation to drug trafficking.

According to court documents, Williams purchased at least 21 firearms between September 2022 and December 2024, making false claims that he was not a drug user and providing a fake address. Seven of the guns purchased by Williams have been recovered by law enforcement, including during drug and homicide investigations.

In March 2025, Williams was arrested with a distribution quantity of cocaine and a firearm with an extended magazine that he carried for protection. The investigation into Williams’ activities was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

United States Attorney David C. Waterman made the announcement, stating that this case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. Upon completing his term of imprisonment, Williams will be required to serve a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

The Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program brings together law enforcement and communities to make neighborhoods safer for everyone. For more information about PSN, please visit Justice.gov/PSN.
