Girod Jackson, Tax Evasion, Louisiana 2006

Grimy Times has uncovered a shocking case of tax evasion involving a former Louisiana state representative. GIROD JACKSON, 41, pleaded guilty today in federal court to violating provisions of the United States Tax Code.

According to court documents, JACKSON misrepresented his income on his federal tax return for 2006, claiming he had earned less from his company, Diversified Ventures, LLC, than he actually had. The former representative from District 87, which covers parts of the West Bank of Jefferson Parish, faces serious consequences for his actions.

In 2007 and 2008, despite having earned sufficient income from Diversified Ventures and other sources, JACKSON failed to file his tax returns. The Internal Revenue Service led the investigation into JACKSON’s dealings, and Assistant United States Attorney Daniel Friel is prosecuting the case.

JACKSON’s guilty plea comes as he prepares to face sentencing on January 9, 2014. If convicted on all counts, he faces up to three years in prison and a $100,000 fine for one count of Making a Fraudulent Statement on a Tax Return, a felony. He also faces up to one year in prison and a $25,000 fine for two counts of Willful Failure to File Tax Returns, misdemeanors.

JACKSON was elected to office in 2007 and served his first full year as State Representative for District 87 in 2008. His actions have raised questions about the integrity of public officials in Louisiana.

The case serves as a reminder that public officials are not above the law. Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and bring you updates as more information becomes available.
