LAKE CHARLES, LA – The Bureau of Justice Assistance and Bureau of Statistics have awarded $4,192,789 to the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement and the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Ellison C. Travis.
The Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement is a foundation in Baton Rouge dedicated to improving the operations of the criminal justice and juvenile justice systems and promoting public safety.
The agency will use the funds to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime, develop and implement substance abuse treatment programs, and work on coming into compliance with PREA Standards to protect individuals from sexual abuse and sexual harassment in confinement facilities.
The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance will utilize the funds to provide student loan repayment assistance for public defenders and prosecutors who commit to extended service in those roles.
The grants are intended to address the state’s unique crime and public safety needs, and the agencies will determine the specific uses of the funds based on their own state and local needs and conditions.
Travis said, ‘We are committed to supporting our law enforcement and public safety agencies in their efforts to keep our communities safe.’
The awards were made possible through the Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Bureau of Statistics, which provide funding to support a wide range of activities aimed at preventing and controlling crime.
