A Lawrence County man has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his role in child exploitation crimes, officials announced today.
According to information presented in federal court, Patrick Joseph Kofalt, 56, received, possessed and accessed material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor on or about December 2, 2009.
United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer imposed the sentence of 235 months in prison, followed by lifetime supervised release, on Kofalt.
The court found credible the accounts of vulnerable child victims who reported years of sexual offending by Kofalt and deemed him a serious threat to children.
Assistant United States Attorney Soo C. Song prosecuted this case on behalf of the government, presenting evidence of over 1,000 images of child pornography that Kofalt had encrypted and saved on his computer.
The investigation, led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police, identified three additional victims of Kofalt’s sexual assault.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
