FRANKFORT, Ky. – A grim chapter in Kentucky’s drug war closed as Daniel Hudson, 36, of Lawrenceburg, was sentenced to 240 months for distributing fentanyl, a substance that ultimately led to a fatal overdose.
Hudson, caught with nearly six grams of the deadly substance on March 24, 2022, managed to smuggle it into Franklin County Region Jail. He then distributed the drug, profiting from cash payments funneled through his friend’s Cash App account.
On March 29, tragedy struck as an inmate overdosed after ingesting Hudson’s fentanyl but was saved by timely Narcan administration. However, three days later, another inmate succumbed to fentanyl-related causes, found dead in his cell.
Under federal guidelines, Hudson is required to serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence before becoming eligible for parole. His release will be followed by five years of supervision by the U.S. Probation Office.
The joint effort to bring Hudson to justice was led by the DEA and the Frankfort Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Bradbury spearheading the prosecution on behalf of the United States.
United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, Carlton S. Shier, IV; Acting Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Louisville Field Division, Erek Davodowich; and Frankfort Police Department Chief Dustin Bowman announced the sentencing, underscoring the community’s commitment to combating drug trafficking.
