Leif Christopher Haslag, Meth Trafficking, Missouri 2021

Jefferson City, MO – In a shocking move, Leif Christopher Haslag, a 39-year-old man from Loose Creek, Missouri, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison without parole for his involvement in methamphetamine trafficking and firearm possession.

According to court records, on July 1, 2021, Haslag pleaded guilty to one count of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. This guilty plea came after a lengthy investigation by law enforcement agencies.

The investigation, which began on September 12, 2019, revealed that Haslag had been selling large quantities of methamphetamine in the Jefferson City area. On that day, officers from the Jefferson City Police Department and the MUSTANG Drug Task Force conducted surveillance on a residence in Jefferson City, where they observed Haslag leaving in a Ford Explorer with license plates registered to another vehicle.

During a subsequent stop, officers searched the vehicle and found approximately 48.3 grams of pure methamphetamine and a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun. Haslag claimed to have sold between four and six ounces of methamphetamine in the past 30 days and admitted to purchasing the handgun the day before for $75 with the intention of selling it.

Under federal law, it is an egregious offense for anyone with a prior felony conviction to possess a firearm or ammunition. Haslag’s seven prior felony convictions for burglary, seven prior felony convictions for theft, multiple prior felony convictions related to drug trafficking, and a prior felony conviction for stealing a motor vehicle make this case particularly egregious.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren E. Kummerer. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Jefferson City Police Department, and the MUSTANG Drug Task Force.
