Methamphetamine Trafficking Plagues Lake Charles Community

LAKE CHARLES, LA – A devastating methamphetamine distribution conspiracy has shaken the Lake Charles community, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Five individuals, including Steven Paul Meaux, 32, of Lake Charles, Arielle Marie Ardoin, 33, of Kinder, Troy Lane Touchet, 42, of Jennings, Jose Rosalio Mendez-Gonzalez, 41, of Garland, Texas, and Jorge Massu, 33, of Garland, Texas, have been sentenced for their roles in the conspiracy.

According to court documents, the defendants conspired to obtain methamphetamine from sources in the Houston and Dallas areas between March 2014 and September 2014, which they distributed in the Calcasieu Parish area. Law enforcement agents recovered approximately 2 kilograms of methamphetamine in the Lake Charles area for distribution.

The methamphetamine distribution conspiracy has left a lasting impact on the community, with many residents struggling with addiction and related crimes. The sentences handed down to the defendants are a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done to address the root causes of this issue.

United States District Judge Donald E. Walter sentenced the defendants as follows: Steven Paul Meaux, 44 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release; Arielle Marie Ardoin, 24 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release; Troy Lane Touchet, 84 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release; Jose Rosalio Mendez-Gonzalez, 24 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release; and Jorge Massu, 120 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release.

The investigation was conducted by the Department of Homeland Security and the Calcasieu Anti-drug Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph T. Mickel prosecuted the case.
