Cleveland Man Faces Firearms Charges in Ohio

A Cleveland man has been charged with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition after a federal indictment was filed against him, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio.

Lenelle Gray, 36, is accused of possessing an Imbel, .45 caliber pistol, a Mauser .32 caliber pistol, and ammunition on Sept. 8, despite having been previously convicted of three felony drug trafficking offenses in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio, in 2005.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives conducted the investigation into the case, and Assistant United States Attorney Ranya Elzein is prosecuting the charges against Gray.

If convicted, the court will determine Gray’s sentence after a review of factors unique to the case, including his prior criminal record, his role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation. The sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and, in most cases, will be less than the maximum.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Gray is entitled to a fair trial, in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case highlights the importance of enforcing firearm laws and ensuring that those with a history of violent crime do not have access to firearms.
