Leo Antoine Smith, Methamphetamine Conspiracy, West Virginia 2021

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A federal jury has found Leo Antoine Smith, 38, of Cross Lanes, guilty of conspiracy to distribute a quantity of methamphetamine.

Smith was convicted of conspiracy to distribute a quantity of methamphetamine after a two-day trial. He faces up to 20 years in prison.

According to the indictment, Smith distributed methamphetamine around Charleston between the fall of 2020 and September 21, 2021.

As part of the conspiracy, Smith traveled to Atlanta with Brian Dangelo Terry to purchase methamphetamine from Ramon David Alston. Smith distributed more than 60 ounces of methamphetamine, with evidence at trial revealing text messages and wiretaps obtained from his cellphones.

On August 15, 2022, Smith is scheduled to be sentenced by United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin.

Wesley was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm after a foiled murder plot on July 4, 2021. He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 17, 2022, and faces up to 10 years in prison.

This case represents an outstanding example of inter-agency teamwork and diligence that not only dismantled a significant drug operation, but also prevented a violent crime from occurring on Charleston’s West Side.
