Tallahassee, Florida – In a shocking turn of events, Jerry Thomas McCarigie, a 49-year-old resident of Panama City Beach, has been sentenced to over six years in federal prison after a jury previously found him guilty of possession with intent to distribute 5 grams or more of methamphetamine.
The sentence was announced by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
McCarigie’s conviction and sentence are the result of a joint investigation by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Law enforcement obtained a search warrant for McCarigie’s motel room on November 15, 2023, and found fentanyl, multiple baggies containing more than 48 grams of methamphetamine, and a digital scale in his pockets.
McCarigie will have to serve 4 years on supervised release after serving his term of imprisonment.
The conviction and sentence are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida is one of 94 offices that serve as the nation’s principal litigators under the direction of the Attorney General.
Assistant United States Attorney Justin M. Keen prosecuted the case.
