A Lake County man is headed to federal prison for more than a decade after admitting to a relentless methamphetamine trafficking spree. James Adelbert Walker, II, 43, of Leesburg, was sentenced to 11 years and 3 months by Senior U.S. District Judge James D. Whittemore for conspiracy to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine.
Walker pleaded guilty on February 5, 2019, capping a swift federal investigation that peeled back layers of a high-volume drug network operating across Central Florida. Court documents reveal that in November 2018, agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) zeroed in on Walker as a major supplier moving multi-kilogram quantities of methamphetamine through Lake County.
Using a confidential source, HSI intercepted a parcel containing four kilograms of methamphetamine en route to Walker. The source then engaged Walker in a series of recorded phone calls in which Walker openly discussed distributing “5-10 kilograms [of methamphetamine] per week” for the prior year. That hubris led directly to his downfall.
Agents set up a controlled buy. Walker showed up ready to purchase the four kilograms from undercover operatives—walking straight into a federal sting. When he attempted the transaction, he was arrested on the spot. The takedown didn’t stop there.
A search of Walker’s residence uncovered a loaded firearm, ammunition, and stash after stash of drugs—packaged marijuana, cocaine, and additional methamphetamine—clearly intended for street-level distribution. The haul confirmed prosecutors’ claims of an entrenched, violent drug operation.
“This investigation disrupted a money laundering and drug trafficking organization,” said HSI Orlando Assistant Special Agent in Charge David J. Pezzutti. The case was jointly pursued by HSI, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the DEA, and multiple local agencies, including the Lake County and Sumter County Sheriff’s Offices, and the Winter Park and Orlando Police Departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert E. Bodnar, Jr., handled prosecution.
