ALBANY, NY – Keith Edmonds, 30, of Schenectady, is looking at a long stretch behind bars after admitting to flooding the Capital Region with dangerous narcotics. Edmonds pled guilty yesterday to possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, a charge stemming from a DEA investigation that exposed a significant drug operation.
According to court documents, Edmonds wasn’t just holding onto the drugs; he was actively pushing them onto the streets. On April 24, 2025, law enforcement found Edmonds in possession of 425 pills laced with methamphetamine, clearly intended for sale. But the single bust only scratched the surface. Investigators revealed Edmonds had been peddling poison for months, between October 2024 and March 2025, moving over 1,300 pills containing either methamphetamine or the dangerous benzodiazepines.
“Edmonds brazenly sold poisonous pills in this District and faces a serious term of imprisonment as a result,” stated Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III. “This office and our law enforcement partners will continue to disrupt, arrest and prosecute drug dealers in the Northern District of New York.” The sentiment is clear: the feds are cracking down, and they’re not playing around.
Frank A. Tarentino III, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s New York Division, echoed that message. “Keith Edmonds’ guilty plea is the result from the unity the DEA and our law enforcement partners show when successfully targeting those individuals who are causing the most harm to our families, friends, and neighbors,” Tarentino stated. “Illicit drugs have no place in our communities and the DEA is committed to apprehending those who distribute counterfeit pills and inflame the ongoing opioid crisis.”
Edmonds is scheduled to be sentenced on December 11, 2025. He’s facing a minimum of 5 years in federal prison, but the potential penalty stretches up to a staggering 40 years. On top of that, he could be subjected to a supervised release period lasting anywhere from 4 years to a lifetime after serving his time. The final sentence will be determined by the judge, taking into account federal sentencing guidelines and the specifics of the case.
The DEA led the investigation, receiving crucial assistance from the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office and the Albany County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua R. Rosenthal is prosecuting the case, and will be arguing for a sentence that reflects the severity of Edmonds’ crimes. This case serves as a stark reminder that dealing in deadly drugs comes with a hefty price – and in this case, that price could be decades of Edmonds’ life.
