Leonardo Leon, Production and Distribution of Child Pornography, Missouri 2025

KANSAS CITY, MO – Leonardo Leon, 25, of Kansas City, Missouri, will spend over two decades behind bars after being sentenced yesterday for the vile production and distribution of child pornography. U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs handed down a sentence of 21 years and 10 months in federal prison without the possibility of parole, followed by 5 years of supervised release.

Leon pleaded guilty on March 28, 2025, to one count each of producing and distributing child pornography. The case, investigated by the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse and callous disregard for a vulnerable victim. Court documents paint a grim picture of Leon engaging in sexual acts with a 15-year-old minor.

The depravity didn’t end there. Investigators discovered that Leon recorded himself during these acts and, shockingly, disseminated the footage. A copy of the video was sent to a friend of the minor victim just one week after the victim’s death in 2024. The details are stomach-churning, and underscore the utter lack of remorse demonstrated by the defendant.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth W. Borgnino prosecuted the case, ensuring Leon faced the full weight of the law. Upon his release, Leon will be required to register as a sex offender, facing lifelong restrictions and scrutiny under both federal and state regulations. This isn’t just about punishment; it’s about protecting potential future victims.

This case was brought forth as part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the escalating epidemic of child sexual exploitation. The program aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute those who prey on children, and to rescue those already victimized. Information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.usdoj.gov/psc.

Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on efforts to dismantle the networks that enable such horrific crimes. The exploitation of children is a stain on society, and we remain committed to shining a light on the darkness, holding perpetrators accountable, and advocating for the protection of the most vulnerable among us.
