Leonard Landt, Methamphetamine Robbery, Iowa 2014
A brazen robbery in Cedar Rapids left a drug dealer high and dry, but three suspects will be serving time for their crimes.
Leonard Landt, 28, was sentenced to 77 months in federal prison for his role in the June 9, 2014, robbery of a methamphetamine and cash from a drug dealer. Landt’s co-conspirators, Snofawn Torres, 22, and Bart Waddell, 26, also received significant prison time for their involvement in the heist.
According to court documents, Torres was sentenced to 44 months in federal prison, while Waddell will serve 57 months behind bars. All three defendants will also serve a 3-year term of supervised release after their prison sentences.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Patrick Reinert and Lisa Williams and investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Cedar Rapids Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Task Force.
The suspects are currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until they can be transported to a federal prison. The case file number is 14-CR-119 and can be accessed at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl.
In a statement, Chief Judge Linda R. Reade emphasized the severity of the crime and the consequences faced by the defendants. The lack of parole in the federal system means that Landt, Torres, and Waddell will serve their full sentences without the possibility of early release.
The suspects’ crimes sent shockwaves through the community, and the lengthy prison sentences are a testament to the determination of law enforcement to bring perpetrators to justice.
